This full-day workshop combines two of the Dodge Foundation’s most popular workshop offerings, and provides a critical foundation for the rest of the Board Series curriculum. Using the concepts presented in Susan Kenny Steven’s award-winning book, Nonprofit Lifecycles, we examine the predictable challenges that nonprofits and their board members can expect to face at different stages of organizational development. Not only will this workshop shatter your expectations and understanding of assessment, it will provide you with invaluable tools and techniques for actually improving your work. Participants will learn the basics of how to develop their own assessment rubrics and then apply the techniques to develop rubrics about Board-related priorities for subsequent workshop offerings.

Each participating nonprofit organization must bring a team of up to five people and a minimum of two which includes the Executive Director (or comparable staff) and Board Chair. Other attendees may include the Vice President, Treasurer, Fundraising Committee Chair, Governance Committee Chair. Personnel Committee Chair and/or Strategic Planning Committee Chairwho will likely attend later sessions. This will be the team responsible for bringing the learning back to the full Board.
